A day out on the River Nene!
Bring a picnic, your family and friends and enjoy the peace of the waterways, the challenge of the locks and the ever changing views from the River Nene in the vicinity of the village of Ringstead.
‘The Rose of the Nene’ can accommodate up to 8 people and has a cabin with a galley kitchen and toilet compartment. The galley kitchen has a sink and gas hob, and is equipped with crockery, cutlery, kettle, teapot, saucepans, bottle opener and washing up materials.
Through the galley kitchen is a covered seating area with side screens which can be rolled up on sunny days, or kept down to keep the rain out if you should be unlucky with the weather.
The boat is small (about 40 foot) and easy to handle, even for a beginner. Full tuition on the operation of the boat and locks will be given, and novice crews will be accompanied through the first lock or two.
There are 2 routes to choose from. Going east from Ringstead through the countryside passing the villages of Woodford then Denford and onto Thrapston and Islip and beyond before turning back. Going west from Ringstead, again going through the countryside, past the back of Stanwick Lakes, which is an area of Special Scientific Interest, then on past Irthlingborough.
We recommend you bring a picnic, but there are pubs at Denford and Islip which serve meals. The Visitor Centre at Stanwick Lakes is also well worth a visit and they have a café on site serving hot and cold drinks and snacks.
